Rome is a great city with a big gay scene. When you plan your holiday, you need to understand how to set it up and where to book your hotel. There are many areas to book a room and depending on your needs you’ll want to pick the district that suits you.
Gay Areas in Rome
There is now a real gay district in Rome, and it’s the only city in Italy where you can find a proper gay street. Milan also has one, but it is new, while in Rome via San Giovanni in Laterano is publicly known as the gay street (you can even buy souvenirs in one of the few gay stores there).Via San Giovanni in Laterano is in the heart of the historic city center, very close to the Colosseum. Relax and drink a cocktail sitting at a table on the street facing the Roman Arena. There are many gay-friendly B&B here, and there is a gay gym for those who can’t miss a workout, but the hotels are old and very expensive.
Shopping District
Very close to the gay street there are several shopping districts. The best one is between Stazione Termini (the city central station) and the gay street. In Via Nazionale, there are plenty of shops to buy Italian fashion, and you’ll also find Palazzo delle Esposizioni, one of the top museums in town with a fantastic design shop inside and a popular restaurant.
Ethnic District
Piazza Vittorio is one of the most fascinating areas in Rome. Here you will find a mix of cultures and also plenty of gay clubs and leather bars. Chinese shops and amazing Indian and Asian restaurants greet you with a trip within a trip. The Censured Club offers themed parties like the big naked party while the Company Club reigns the bear community in Rome.
