This is what the inhabitants of L’Aquila have also done: after the earthquake, they decided to take charge of their lives and get back to work. This place, the Short Bus, is a demonstration of this strength, in an ironic and satirical key. The gay-friendly venue is a place free from any prejudice, from any serious thought. For a minimal and provocative place, Short Bus was the best name you could choose!
Short Bus: the story of the film becomes an LGBT venue in L’Aquila
The ambiances of the local are therefore based on the film, less erotic of course, but more satirical and ironic. There are photos and drawings of drag queens that embellish the walls. One drawing is inspired by Marilyn Monroe, another by a stereotyped Lady Oscar, with tattoos and piercings. The bathroom is also extravagant, with images of transgender people and in particular drawings inspired by the prostitute of Breaking Bad, but revisiting and transforming it into a transgender character. The sense of this particular atmosphere is to make it clear that within Short Bus there is no room for preconceptions and prejudices.
Short Bus is also a sexy shop. Ironic, minimalist, and very alternative. In the bathroom, there is a window with sex toys, which can be easily ordered from an online store, run by the owners of the place. Let’s not talk about “classic” sex toys, as it can be a simple dildo. But the more joking, more extravagant ones, like everything in the shop. The decision to open a sex shop is always linked to the philosophy of the place, at a time when there is a new concept of sex toys. It is no longer just a tool used by an age group that exceeds 40 years, but it is also used by young people, because they want to try new things. And Short Bus is what it wants to be: a different place to spend a different evening.
Short Bus is a local, but also a museum. The walls are white, bare, if not for the drawings of the drag queens illuminated by spotlights, just as if they were works of a museum.
